Sending Us Files
We have a range of ways in which you can send us files for publication use, and the most appropriate method depends on the type of file, and the end use of the file.
  1. For text or small images, emailing the files as attachments to the person you have been dealing with is fine. We have a maximum attachment size of 4Mb, which applies to all attachments to any individual email.
We can accept plain text, RTF or Word documents for text, and JPG, GIF and PNG images.
  2. For large images, or complete pages/adverts, you can either use our Secure FTP system, or our browser based upload system.
We can accept hi-res press ready PDF files, QuarkXpress, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator files, incorporating relevant fonts and image files (EPS, Tiff or JPEG), saved at 300dpi.
Powerpoint, Publisher, Corel Draw and Word files are not suitable for press use.
  3. For video, large numbers of images or other mass file provision, we can accept content on CDs or DVDs by post to the appropriate office. You may be able to drop the media off at our offices if this is convenient, but check with the appropriate office beforehand.
We can also process images supplied as prints, transparencies or negatives, in both black and white and colour.

Browser Based Upload System (for one-off uploads, or occassional use)

  1. Visit http://uploads.excelpublishing.co.uk/uu_file_upload.php
  2. Enter your name, the name of the salesperson you have been dealing with (if applicable), and the name of the publication the uploaded file is for in the appropriate boxes. If you have one, you should also enter the order reference number, which is printed on correspondence from Excel, and which your salesperson should have given you. Failure to provide an order reference for advert content may cause delays in processing.
  3. Click Browse, and find the first file you want to upload. If you want to upload more than one file, select each one in turn, and a new browse box will appear, up to a maximum of 20 files.
  4. Click send, and wait for the file(s) to upload completely before closing your browser. This may take several minutes, depending on your internet connection speed. If you close the window before it finishes, we will not receive the file, and will not know you have attempted to send it.
  5. Once the success page appears, you can close your browser or browse to other pages.

Secure FTP (for larger numbers of files, or regular uploads)

  1. Install some FTP software that can cope with SFTP transfers. For Windows, Filezilla (http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/) or WinSCP (http://www.winscp.com/) are available for free use, and fairly simple to use. For Mac OS X, Cyberduck (http://cyberduck.ch/) is one option.
  2. Set up a new connection in this software with the addess "production.excelpublishing.co.uk", the username "production" and the password "excelprod"
    1. In Filezilla, to set up (first time only), go to File->Site Manager.
      Click "New Site".
In the Host box, enter "production.excelpublishing.co.uk", and select "SFTP using SSH2" from the Servertype drop-down.
      Change the Logontype to Normal.
Enter "production" in the User box, and "excelprod" in the Password box.
      Click "Save and exit".
To access the site once this is done, click and hold down the down arrow next to the computer icon at the top left of the window. Select the connection you set up, and release the mouse button.
    2. In WinSCP, Click New, then enter "production.excelpublishing.co.uk" in the Host box, "production" in the Username box and"excelprod" in the password box
